Instructions

Step 1 – Prep the Chicken

  1. Butterfly the chicken breasts (cut them open like a book without slicing all the way through).
  2. Cover with plastic wrap and gently pound until thin and even.

Step 2 – Season and Fill

  1. Sprinkle each piece of chicken with salt and black pepper.
  2. Layer with 2 slices of cheddar cheese and 2 slices of ham.
  3. Roll up the chicken tightly into a log shape. Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze for 20 minutes to firm it up.

Step 3 – Bread the Chicken

  1. Dredge each roll in flour, dip in beaten egg, then coat generously in panko breadcrumbs.
  2. Optional: lightly spray with oil for extra crispiness.

Step 4 – Air Fry or Bake

  1. Preheat air fryer or oven to 180°C / 356°F.
  2. Place chicken rolls inside and cook for 25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Let rest 5 minutes before slicing.

Step 5 – Make the Cheese Sauce

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.
  2. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Slowly pour in milk, whisking constantly.
  4. Add cheese slices and stir until fully melted. Season with a pinch of salt.

Step 6 – Serve

  1. Slice chicken rolls into pinwheels and arrange on a plate.
  2. Drizzle with cheese sauce and sprinkle with herbs (like parsley or thyme) if desired.
